With your UVA membership, you will receive a UVA ID gold card. Please bring this to events, as you may need it to show that you are a member. Also, some of our sponsors plan to offer discounts or deals for showing your gold card at events. Examples may include reduced drink price, food specials, or free cover charge for bands or other events.

To register for an event, you must call the UVA hotline and select the EVENT REGISTRATION OPTION. Simply, leave your name and phone #, the level at which you are playing at, along with the other names of the players on your team. Only 1 player has to register your team. If you call before the Thursday prior to the event and you are a UVA member you will automatically be registered for the event. Just show up the morning of the event at 8:30 or so ready to play at 9:00.
If you call after the Thursday deadline or you are not a member, then your registration will be on a stand-by basis. The UVA will have to contact you to let you know if you have made it into the event.
(E-mail is also an acceptable way to register, although the Thursday deadline still applies.)
REGISTRATION IS IMPORTANT - THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF SLOTS. Registration will be handled on a first register, first in basis. Teams that register and then do not show up will forfeit their right to automatically register for future events. Of course, if you are truly adventuresome you can always chance showing up the morning of the event to see if there are any slots available. The UVA makes NO guarantees if you choose to register via this method because the event may be full!

Event fees are $10 per player for UVA members. $15 per player for non-members. Your team fee is calculated simply by multiplying the number of UVA members x $10 + the number of non-members by $15. Your team fee must be paid prior to the start of the event or your team will not be allowed to play. The UVA does not want to charge a late fee for events. And as long as a teams pre-register and pay accordingly the morning of the event, we will not charge a late fee. If there becomes a problem with teams registering and not showing, then we will require advanced payment and charge late fees to teams that pay the day of events. SOME EVENTS MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT ENTRY FEE!!!!

Rules for the events are the USAV 1997-1998 Outdoor Rules except where previously stated or prior to an event beginning.

Teams will be required to ref games in their own pool as scheduled during the day. Teams may also have to work during the playoffs. The 1st round of playoffs will be worked by one of the following teams (in order): by the loser of last match unless in playoffs; the winner of the last match unless in playoffs; the last match's work team. Each additional playoff round will be worked by teams losing in the previous round. Teams failing to work assigned games will be barred from competing in future events. Please make sure all scores are recorded on the sheets provided. Last work team should return the scoresheets and clipboard to the UVA.

All playoffs will be single elimination unless otherwise noted for an event. Playoffs are 1 game to 15. There is a cap of 17 in all playoff games except the finals (no cap).

After win/loss records, total points will be used to figure out rankings. Total points will be used to determine team rankings coming out of pools (who's 1ST & 2ND) and overall event rankings for the Bonus Points Pool. Head to head will not be used, as all teams will not play each other head to head. This means that every point helps you, even in a loss!
Total points can not eliminate a team from coming out of their pool. In this case, a tie-breaker game must be played to 7 points.

Prizes will be awarded for top teams in each division at every event. The prizes will vary depending on events, sponsors, and size of events. Cash will also be paid out for the uvA level and sometimes at the uvB level.
In addition to each event's prizes, the summer-long Bonus Pool will pay out cash to the top players in each of the divisions.

There will be 2 skill levels for events, uvA and uvB . The uvA level is the more competitive of the two. Players must determine which level they will compete at prior to playing in their first event. This will determine which Bonus Pool they will accumulate points toward. Although, the competition will be stronger at the uvA level, the prizes will also be better. This is to discourage players from sandbagging and playing below their level. Players who participate at the uvB level can always compete at the uvA level.

The Bonus Points Pool tracks how UVA members are doing during the summer-long tour. There will be a Bonus Pool for Men's uvA, Women's uvA, Men's uvB, and Women's uvB. Players determine which pool they will have their points count toward by selecting the level that they compete in each event. Players accumulate points by how large their pool is for events and how well they do in these events. Points are NOT transferable from uvB to uvA. Points will be adjusted to transfer from uvA to uvB.
The top 10%-15% in each pool will get their share of the $2,000 payout. The uvA pools will have a larger cash payout than the uvB pools. Note, that a player's share of their Bonus Pool payout will be calculated relative to the rest of the 10%. For instance, if there are 2 players in the Top 10%-15% and one has accumulated 100 points and the other 50 points. Then Player #1 will earn 66% of the cash payout for his/her pool.

Co-ed events require teams to have a minimum of 1 female and 1 male player. For 4s events, the team may be a 3:1 or 2:2 ratio. When there is no co-ed division offered, co-ed teams will be allowed to compete in one of the men's divisions. If more than 1 player on the co-ed team is uvA level then the team must compete in the uvA men's division. Otherwise, the co-ed team may choose either the uvA or uvB division.

Players looking for teams may contact the UVA and ask to be placed on the FREE AGENT LIST. Your name, phone #, and level are all that are required. The UVA will pass along this info to teams who are looking for players.
Teams or individuals seeking players must provide the player skill level they are looking for. The UVA will provide a list of all "free agents" on the list at the same level.

To be able to offer more opportunities to compete in volleyball tournaments, the UVA has partnered with other Central NY organizations who offer high quality events. These events, although run by our partners, are "sanctioned" by the UVA and will count toward our Bonus Points Pool. To register for a sanctioned event, you must contact that event's organizer (not the UVA!).
Note: formats, rules, and event fees may differ slightly from the events run by the UVA.

Please help us keep the tour going by supporting all of the UVA's sponsors. The sponsors have graciously donated facilities, cash, and prizes to allow us to play volleyball here in Central NY. Your patronage is greatly appreciated!

In the event of inclimate weather at events, the following policy will be used. If weather becomes threatening (lightning, basketball size hail, tornado …) play will stop for a maximum of 20 minutes. If the weather is still threatening, the event will be stopped and winners and points determined at this point. If the weather lessens in severity, play will resume under a shortened format. Games to 15 will go to 11. Games to 11 to 8. And 7 point tie-breakers to 5. Playoff games will be to 11. The scores will start with the points shortened. For instance, a 15 point game under shortened format will start at 4-4. Once, the shortened format is switched to, the event will finish under this format even if the weather turns favorable again. Remember that Central NY doesn't have a very long summer, so if it is overcast or a period of rain, we will play through it!
Events will be cancelled in the event of extreme weather or some other unforeseen circumstance. The UVA as a courtesy will attempt to contact pre-registered teams to notify them. However, players should frequently check the UVA hotline for updates.

If you would like to help out at UVA events; setting up, tearing down, and just generally making everything run smoothly, then please contact us and become part of the UVA STAFF. The pay sucks (non-existent) but at least the hours are long! Just kidding…volunteers get a UVA STAFF shirt for helping out and are (along with their immediate families) always eligible to play in all events.. Anything you can do to help out at events (making sure scores are recorded, adjusting nets, …) is greatly appreciated. If everyone pitches in it will allow us to keep costs down. Thanks!
