Event Notes
An un-summer like cold spell did not keep 28 teams from competing in Saturday's event.
The temps were in the low 40s, winds were gusting up to 70 mph, and there was a 2"-4"
accumulation of lake effect. (OK, it wasn't really that bad...but it sure felt like it!!)
The men's uvA saw the team of Killian/Rank back in on top after a hard fought
finals victory over Frey/Klaczany.
This was the teams' first win since Killian's less than successful venture into the 4s competitive arena.
His subsequent re-teaming with Rank apparently was just the thing to get him back to a tour finals.
The women's uvA venue was shocked when weekly champs DeCarr/Krieger were unseated by
the new team of Binder/VanDyke. ( One has to wonder, Could this be a glimpse of things to come? )
Meanwhile, the women's uvB team of Pilny/Spiers won for the second time in as many events together with a narrrow
victory over Daskiewich / Hensley in a very close contest.
But, the biggest draw of the day had to be the men's uvB finals which pitted rival factions, from
Syracuse and Utica, against one another. The match had to be stopped several times while UVA security
removed some overzealous 'cuse fans. Distractions aside the Syracuse team of Bourlier/Selling defeated
the Utica team of Johnson/Porta. The turning point of the finals was when Bourlier, a top ranked player on the
tour, single-handedly took over and assured a victory for his partner and himself.
