PLAYERS ON THE UVA TOUR BEGIN A LONG SUMMER'S BATTLE TO BE #1.
Event Notes
The 1997 Summer Series Tour kicked off Saturday the 7th
with its premiere event, the Sand Legs Tune Up. The winds were calm on an overcast day that saw temperatures in the low
70s. But the weather, although a little on the chilly side, did not
stop teams from competing in four different divisions. Maybe the cooler temp is
why there were no
reported casualties from a fatal case of leg cramps even though many players were
in the sand for the first time on the summer tour.
Andy Killian and Nick Rank won the Men's uvA Division in a one-sided final.
, Meanwhile, Gerry Sellin and Gary Stanfield took care of business in another
blowout in the Men's uvB final.
Barb DeCarr and Kim Krieger did not have as easy of time, barely making it out
of the semis and then pulling away at the very end of the uvA Women's final
to defeat Peggy Kingston and Brenda VanDruff. The Women's uvB winners, Julie Pilny and Maris Spiers
also squeaked out a close one in capturing their division.
