A QUICK NOTE.

We at Underground Volleyball are so busy being us, (running events, recruiting players & sponsors, selling merchandise, ... , and just having fun) that we haven't had a lot of time to write down all the cool things that we want to tell you about ourselves. This page contains some scribblings about the UVA and is a first (and rough) attempt to let you take a peek at what's going on Underground. We apologize for any omissions we may have at the present time. Please contact the UVA HeadQuarters with any questions you may have about any of the information you see here.

What is Underground Volleyball?

That's a good question! And probably the best one to start out with. Underground Volleyball of America (a.k.a. Underground Volleyball, UVA, or just the Underground) was formed to fill in the void of organized competitive volleyball events being held in and around Central NY. Most of the UVA's events are sanctioned by and in cooperation with the national program, USA Volleyball (USAV) and are invitationals extended to UVA members only. Currently, we offer multiple skill levels and formats for our competitions. Although our events are open to all players, event slots are limited and priority will be given to UVA members. Besides, becoming a UVA member is easy!

THE MISSION

Our mission at UVA is simple. Provide volleyball players (who can play at more competitive level) with plenty of opportunities to compete in the sport that they love, oh so much.

THE TOUR

The UVA is a year-round host for volleyball events. We host indoor events when there's snow on the beach and in warmer months run the Underground Tour's Summer Series, Central NY's hottest beach volleyball tour. The Summer Series features the Underground's King/Queen of the Beach format. Read on for more details on the tour and its events.

THE SPONSORS

The UVA has both national and local sponsors which provide us with a great amount of support for doing what we do. The UVA sponsors provide us with cool facilities to host our events, the best equipment, fabulous prizes, tremendous exposure, and excellent administrative support to our event staff. We encourage not only UVA members, but everyone in the free world, to support our sponsors' organizations Sponsorship Opportunities are available for your organization.

OTHER SERVICES

Will you or your organization be running a volleyball event in the near future? Maybe you don't have a lot of experience with setting up a tournament. Or maybe you don't have enough equipment to get the job done. Or maybe volleyball is just one part of a bigger event that you have planned and must coordinate. Let Underground Volleyball help you out. You can bring in the UVA to run your event for you, leaving you headache and trouble-free. The Underground also provide a consulting service that will work with you right up until the day of your event. We'll steer you clear of the many pitfalls of hosting your own tournament. Either way we will assure you that your participants (and yourself!) will enjoy your volleyball event and look forward to any you may have in the future. We have years of experience running all types of tournaments: recreational, competitive, 2-person, 3-person, 4-person, 6-person, sand, grass, indoor, outdoor, single or double elimination, pool play - you name it!

MEMBERSHIP

What are some things I need to know about a membership? Hey, another good question! First, you should ask yourself, can you play at competitive levels? Unfortunately, there is this general misconception that anyone who played in school or at a family picnic, can play the sport competitively. The UVA runs events with competition levels primarily geared toward the more skilled player.

PARTICIPATING

Do you have to join to participate? Yes and No. If you want to receive information on UVA events, pay lower event fees, and enjoy the many exclusive benefits provided to UVA members, then yes you should join the UVA. However, if you are just passing through the area or have some sort of deviant social behavior then perhaps you would prefer to be one of the FRIENDS OF THE UNDERGROUND. Friends of the UVA do NOT receive the benefits that registered members do. However, for a higher event fee, friends are allowed to play in the Underground's events. Note, that when event slots are limited preference will go to registered members first and any remaining slots will be open to the Friends of the Underground. (my personal opinion: J-O-I-N.)

BENEFITS

Your benefits of joining the UVA are huge. Not only do you get your own official UVA membership gold card but you also get the UVA's ultra-cool t-shirt or tank top. But wait there's more! You will be on the UVA's exclusive invitee list to our events. You will get all the news related to the Underground mailed to you at home and your tour performances placed on our World Wide Web server on the Internet. Now your friends in Japan, Australia, and Sweden can find out how good you really are! Being a UVA member also entitles you to discounts on select volleyball merchandise. We're talking savings up to 25%!! And of course, by joining, you will become the envy of all your peers. So why are you still sitting there? Isn't it obvious by now? The UVA is simply the best volleyball in Central NY and you'd be crazy to play anywhere else.

REGISTERING

The Underground might contact you, but its always easier if you contact us. Of course, to receive all these benefits its gonna cost you. Hey, nothing in life is free and who are we to break from this tradition? To receive information about becoming a member, contact the Underground Volleyball Headquarters. The UVA will then get a membership form to you. You fill it out and send back to us. And sooner than you think, you'll be Underground!!

THE EVENTS

The Underground Tour currently hosts competitive 4s, 2s, and King of the Beach events. The tour events earn players points for the season long Bonus Points Pool. Our Tour Schedule lists upcoming events dates, locations, and formats; but every once in a while it is subject to change. If you are a UVA member, you may register for an event by contacting the UVA Headquarters. Deadline for registration for an event is usually the Thursday before the event. There is NO GUARANTEED REGISTERING the morning of the event.
